THOMAS' ROUND OF 72 GUIDES MEN'S GOLF IN FINAL ROUND OF LEADERSHIP AND GOLF COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Hornets place 11th in tournament and are led by Patrick Dumag

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf completed the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship in 11th place on Wednesday at Bayonet GC. The Hornets totaled 302-298-298-898 over the three rounds.
 
On Wednesday, Sacramento State was led by Max Thomas who shot an even-par round of 72. Thomas opened the morning on the 11th hole with a birdie but was 1-over through six holes after a pair of bogeys. Birdies on the par-5 18th and 1st holes dropped him to 1-under. The freshman sandwiched a birdie on the par-3 fourth between a pair of bogeys and later moved to 1-over following a bogey on the par-4 ninth. Thomas returned to even on his final hole with a birdie on the par-5 10th. He shot 76-76-72-224 to tie for 45th place.
 
Patrick Dumag had the best finish on the team, carding rounds of 74-72-74-220 to tie for 24th place. In the third round, Dumag had a birdie and three bogeys over his first seven holes to stand at 2-over. He played his final 11 holes even with birdies on the par-5 18th and 8th holes and bogeys on Nos. 2 and 4.
 
Luke Dugger was 1-shot behind Dumag and tied for 31st in the overall standings. Dugger had to overcome four bogeys in his seven holes which left him 4-over. He also birdied the 18th and, after six consecutive pars, added a birdie on the par-3 seventh. Dugger concluded the tournament with a birdie on the par-5 10th.
 
Zach Mate shot 79 in the third round for the final score toward the team total. Mate had a birdie, six bogeys and a double bogey in the round.
 
Pacific was 13-under in the final round and moved from fourth place to the team title at 9-under. The Tigers were led by medalist Carols Asitazaran who shot 68-71-69-209 to win by three strokes. BYU, which is ranked 35th in Div. I, placed second at 4-under while Sam Houston was third at 1-over.
 
Sacramento State will have one final event on its fall schedule, playing at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Hawaii on Nov. 2-4.
