Hornets finish in 11th place behind under-par third rounds from Dugger and Dumag

STOCKTON, Calif. — Patrick Dumag and Luke Dugger each shot 71 (1-under par) to help the Hornets to a 1-under par team score during the final round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Wednesday at Stockton Country Club.

Dumag recorded his second under-par round of the season after recording three birdies and a pair of bogeys. He started his round with a birdie on the 10th hole and made the turn at 1-under following a bogey on No. 12 and a birdie on No. 17. Dumag parred the first four holes on the front nine but was even after a bogey on the par-4 fifth. He dropped back to 1-under with a birdie on the par-4 seventh and closed with two pars. The Sacramento native tied for 47th place after shooting 71-76-70-217.

Dugger tied for the top finish on the team with rounds of 73-69-70-212 to tie for 30th. On Wednesday, he had to overcome back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 which left him at 2-over through two holes. Birdies on Nos. 12 and 14 dropped him back to even. Standing at 1-over through 13 holes, Dugger birdied the par-4 fifth and ended the tournament with a birdie on the par-4 ninth. He now has six rounds under par in his nine rounds played this season while lowering his scoring average of 69.56 strokes per round.

Max Thomas matched Dugger by tying for 30th place. Thomas was 1-over in the final round and had a 54-hole total of 70-70-72-212. He bogeyed the par-3 11th but was 1-under at the midway point of his round with birdies on the par-4 13th and par-5 16th. A birdie on the par-5 second dropped him to 2-under before a double bogey on the par-3 third returned him to even. The freshman remained even until a bogey on No. 9.

Zach Mate posted an even-par round of 71 and tied for 39th overall (72-72-71-215). Mate had a pair of birdies and bogeys on both sides of the course during his third round.

Jake Aberle had the lowest score among the team's three individuals during the round. Aberle started with nine consecutive pars on the back nine and then posted two birdies and two bogeys on the front side of the course to finish with a 71.

San Diego pulled away in the third round to win the team title. The Torreros was 11-under during the round and finished at 32-under over the three days. Host Pacific was second at 28-under while California (21-under), Grand Canyon (18-under) and Washington State (9-under) completed the top five. Sacramento State enjoyed its lowest round of the tournament and finished at 3-over to place 11th.
