TRACK & FIELD EARNS USTFCCCA ACADEMIC AWARDS

Men's and women's teams as well Brewer and Mitchell each recognized

NEW ORLEANS — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams were each recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their academic performances during this the 2022-23 year. Along with the team honors, Alyssa Brewer and Mason Mitchell earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

The USTFCCCA recognizes teams which had a combined team grade point average of at least 3.0 during the academic year. The Hornet women finished with a 3.09 while the men had a 3.02.

To earn the individual award, a student-athlete must have a minimum of a 3.25 gpa and either finished ranked among the top 96 nationally in an event during the indoor season or qualified for the first round of an event during the outdoor season.

Brewer capped her collegiate career by competing for Sacramento State during this past spring. She qualified for the NCAA West First Round of the fourth time in her career and was an all-Big Sky selection after placing third in the 800 at the conference championships. She ran 2:07.31 at the Mt. SAC Relays which moved her into fourth place in school history. During the indoor season, she was third at the Big Sky Championships in the 800 and anchored the team's 4x400 relay team which also placed third. Her time of 2:09.69 at the Washington State Invite was the third fastest in school history.

Mitchell had a career effort at the Big Sky Indoor Championships where he finished in third place. The sophomore jumped 24-04.25 which is the sixth best all-time at Sacramento State. That mark also moved him into the top 96 nationally in Div. I. During the outdoor season, he had a best of 24-03.75 to finish in seventh place at the Big Sky Championships.
