Do you have what it takes to be a varsity student-athlete at Sacramento State? The women's rowing program is looking for new athletes to join our team.
- No prior rowing experience is necessary
- All expenses, including travel and uniforms, are covered by the athletics department
- Outstanding student-athletes will have the opportunity to earn scholarships
We are looking for athletes who are tall (at least 5-foot-7), in good physical shape, and have previous athletic experience. Coxswains (athletes who steer the boat and execute race strategy) should ideally weigh less than 120 pounds and enjoy a leadership role. There is no minimum height requirement for coxswains.
We are holding informational meetings for new rowers in Room 2160 in the Athletics Center on Wednesday, Aug. 30, or Thursday, Aug. 31.
You only need to attend one of the meetings, and both will take place at 7 p.m. The Athletics Center is located on the J Street side of campus, and can be found on the campus map by
clicking here and entering Athletics Center (ATH). This meeting is not at the Well.

NOTABLES: Sacramento State will be entering its 11th year in the
American Athletic Conference in 2023-24…approximately two-thirds of the roster is composed of athletes who took their first strokes at Sacramento State…most of your first semester in rowing is spent learning the basic technique and establishing some base level of fitness…rowing has fall races, but the traditional race season is spring so the intensity and amount of training will increase as the team gets closer to its first 2000-meter race in March…the Hornets compete at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, which is widely considered one of the premier rowing sites in the country…in fact, the facility has hosted many regional and national events.
