BEACH VOLLEYBALL BEGINS BIG WEST TOURNAMENT PLAY FRIDAY IN HONOLULU

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State will be the No. 7 seed for the Big West Conference Beach Volleyball Tournament this Friday-Saturday in Honolulu. The Hornets open the tournament on Friday against No. 2 seed Long Beach State at 12:15 p.m. PDT.

The conference's seven teams will compete in the double-elimination tournament to determine the Big West champion. Top seed Hawai'i will receive a first round bye. Friday's first round matchups include #4 CSU Bakersfield vs. #5 Cal Poly at 11:00 a.m. PDT, the Hornets vs. Long Beach State at 12:15 p.m. PDT, and #3 UC Davis vs. #6 CSUN at 1:30 p.m. PDT.

The Big West currently boats two nationally ranked teams, comprised of eighth-ranked Hawai'i and 11th-ranked Long Beach State. The tournament is being played at Queens Beach in Honolulu.

The tournament does not reseed, so the winner of Friday's Sacramento State-Long Beach State match will advance to play the winner of UC Davis/CSUN at 4 p.m. PDT on Friday. Should the Hornets fall to Long Beach State, they would be slotted into the elimination bracket and play at 5:15 p.m. on Friday against either UC Davis or CSUN.

Matches on Saturday begin at 12 p.m. PDT, and the championship match will take place on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PDT (and 6:00 p.m. PDT if necessary).

The winner of the Big West Tournament receives an automatic berth into the 2023 National Collegiate Championship field. A conference-sponsored sport since 2016, only Hawai'i and Cal Poly have won the Big West Championship since its inception. Both teams have won the title three times.

Multimedia options - Live stats will be offered for all matches. There will be no video streams for either day.
