ABILENE, Texas -- Freshman Wehiwa Aloy finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, and sophomore Jeffery Heard had a hit and reached base twice, but Sacramento State could not scratch across a run on Saturday as host Abilene Christian blanked the Hornets, 10-0, in seven innings in game two of their Western Athletic Conference series.
After winning game one on Friday night by an 8-4 score, the Hornets slipped to 12-10 overall and 2-3 in WAC play with Saturday's defeat, managing only three hits on the day. The Wildcats improved to 17-6 overall and 6-2 in league games with the win.
Aloy collected his 10th multi-hit game of the season thanks to a single in the first and another in the sixth, but Sacramento State could not muster much more than Heard's third-inning single as no other Hornet reached base safely.
Abilene Christian scored early with a run in the first and slugged a two-run home run in the third to jump out to a 3-0 lead. It stayed that way until a pair of big innings in the sixth and seventh invoked the run-rule, ending the contest early.
ACU starter Breck Eichelberger (3-0) went the distance, allowing only the three hits and striking out four while retiring eight straight at one point. Sacramento State starter Noah Lucchesi (2-3) was stuck with the loss, allowing three runs on six hits over four innings.
The rubber game of the series is scheduled for Sunday (March 26) at 11:05 a.m. PT. There will be no live stream of the game, but live stats will be available via the link on the baseball schedule page at HornetSports.com.
