Box Score STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford won the doubles point and three singles matches to defeat Sacramento State, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinal, ranked 17th in the nation, improved to 6-2 overall and 5-0 at home. Sacramento State saw its five-match winning streak halted and dropped to 6-3 overall. Of the Hornets' three losses, two have come against teams ranked among the top 20 in the nation.
Though the score was 4-0, Sacramento State kept things close in a number of the singles matchups. That included
Mark Keki taking the first set against the fourth ranked player in the nation (Max Basing) and the two players were tied at 3-3 in the second set before their match was halted after Stanford clinched.
At No. 2,
Mate Voros dropped the first set (7-5) and was leading the second set, 5-4, before his match was stopped. In addition,
Ori Maior, at No. 4, was beating 74th-ranked Aryan Chaudhary, 7-5 and 2-2 in the second set when his match was halted.
After winning the doubles point, the Cardinal won in straight sets at Nos. 3, 5 and 6. Of Stanford's six singles players, three are nationally ranked. That includes two among the top four in the nation.
Adam Chodur fell in his match at No. 3 singles to second-ranked Nishesh Basavareddy, 6-3, 6-1.
The Hornets return to action on Friday for their first Big Sky Conference match at Portland State.
