SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State head coach
Andy Thompson announced the signing of
Onterrio Smith, Jr., as well as the addition of midyear transfers
Anderson Grover and
Ezra Moleni. The trio join 15 others who signed with Sacramento State in December.
Smith comes to the Hornets from Folsom High School where listed as a three-star recruit from 247Sports. As a senior, he caught 47 passes for 666 yards and six touchdowns. His best performance came against Del Oro HS where he had nine catches for 210 yards and a score. He helped continue the Bulldogs' success, guiding the team to a berth in the California State Div. I-AA championship game as a junior and a trip to the Northern California Div. I-AA championship as a senior.
Grover spent the past two seasons at Washington State where he redshirted in 2021 and appeared in 10 games in 2022, including a start in the team's bowl game. He caught five passes for 51 yards and had a touchdown during the year. Prior to playing at WSU, he caught 20 passes for 326 yards and two TDs at Modesto Junior College in 2019. A native of Modesto, Calif., he graduated from Thomas Downey HS where he had 73 receptions for 1,164 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.
Moleni was named to the JC Athletic Bureau All-America team and was Region I Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore at College of San Mateo. That season, he led the team with 1,400 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards in the final four games of the season and guided CSM to the California State JC title. In the championship game, Moleni rushed for 232 yards and had two touchdowns.
Grover and Moleni both enrolled at the University prior to the spring semester and will be with the team for practices this spring. The Hornets also brought in offensive lineman
David Dean (Fresno City JC), long snapper
Kinnick Manley (Dodge City JC) and kickers
Jacob Marroquin (Riverside JC) and
Zach Schreiner (American River JC) as midyear transfers. Offensive lineman
Jordan Stanley also returns to the team for the first time since the 2019 season.
