WOMEN’S TENNIS INKS LITHUANIA’S EMILIJA PRANYTE

SACRAMENTO — Emilija Pranyte, a native of Vilnius, Lithuania, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career with the Sacramento State women's tennis program, head coach Sophie Breault announced Tuesday.

"We are thrilled and proud to welcome Emilija to our tennis program," Breault said. "We are confident that her dedication, passion, and talent will make an invaluable contribution to our team's success."

Currently ranked No. 2 at the U18 level in her home country but ranked as high as No. 1 in her age group at one point in her career, Pranyte stands No. 278 in the ITF Junior rankings as of November 20, and was ranked as high as No. 189 in the world as of August of last year.

In 2022, she took home a Grade 3 tournament singles victory in Tunisia and reached the quarterfinals of a Grade 2 event in Mexico, then reached the quarterfinals of tournaments in Germany and the Netherlands, while advancing to the semifinals at a J100 event in Latvia.

In doubles, she also reached the quarters of a J200 tournament in Egypt in mid-September and a J200 tournament in the Netherlands in early July, while also gaining the semifinals of a pair of J100 tournaments in Latvia earlier this year. In March, she reached the finals of a J100 event in the Netherlands and won three J5 doubles titles in 2021.

"Emilija's versatility and aggressive playing style, as well as her extensive experience in competing at the highest levels of international tournaments, will immediately enhance the depth of our roster and contribute significantly to the success of our program," Breault added. "We are eager to see the positive impact she will have on our program both on and off the court."
