Box Score SAN DIEGO -- UC San Diego stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to win four straight singles matches on the way to a 4-3 victory over Sacramento State on Friday afternoon at Northview Tennis Courts.
The Hornets won the doubles point, and were victorious at No. 1 singles (
Mark Keki) and No. 3 singles (
Adam Chodur) to take what seemed like a comfortable 3-0 lead over the Tritons. However, UCSD won at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 to pick up the victory. Two of those wins came in three sets.
Sacramento State, which opened its season yesterday with a road win at UC Riverside, dropped to 1-1. The Hornets are playing three road matches over a four-day span to begin the season, which includes a Sunday matchup at eighth-ranked USC.
UC San Diego, playing its fourth straight home matche to begin the season, improved to 2-2. The Tritons opened the year with a 4-3 win against Nevada on Jan. 15.

Mate Voros (6-1) and No. 3 team of

Hayden Rand (6-2) both won in quick fashion. Sacramento State has won the doubles point in both matches this season, after earning the point in 19 of 23 matches a year ago.
Keki won his match at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2), and Chodur, a true freshman, followed with his first collegiate win at No. 3 by a 6-4, 6-4 score. However, the Hornets could not secure the match-clinching win as Voros (No. 2),
Ori Maior (No. 4),
Rudolfs Aksenoks (No. 5) and Rand (No. 6) each lost their singles matches. Maior and Aksenoks fell in three sets.
The Hornets return to action on Sunday morning to face eighth-ranked USC. The Trojans have three singles players ranked among the top 80 players in the nation.
