HORNET KEEPER SHALIT CALLED INTO CAMP WITH PERUVIAN WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State goalkeeper Mia Shalit has earned a call-up to camp with the Peruvian Women's National Team in preparation for a pair of competition windows running from the end of June into July.

"I am super honored and excited to have earned the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Peruvian Women's National Team and build on my nearly seven-year journey with Peru as the U17 and U20 National Team goalkeeper," Shalit said.

One of 30 players — and four goalkeepers — to be called into camp, Shalit and her teammates will convene and begin training on June 13 in advance of a pair of friendlies against Mexico on June 25 and June 28. Should she make the final roster, Shalit will then represent Peru for the 2022 CONMEBOL Women's Copa America Tournament in Colombia, which begins with a Group B contest against Argentina on July 12 and includes matches against Venezuela (July 15), Uruguay (July 18), and defending champion Brazil (July 21).

It is not the first international experience for the Chula Vista, Calif., native as Shalit has been a member of Peru's various age-group national teams since 2015, serving as the starting goalkeeper for the U17 team in 2017 and 2018 and, most recently, earning the starting nod for the U20 team in 2020, representing the nation at the Sudamericano U20 Tournament in Argentina.

"I'm extremely proud of Mia for her relentless pursuit of being the best goalkeeper she can be for our program and for the Peruvian Women's National Team," Sacramento State head women's soccer coach Randy Dedini said.

Shalit wrapped up her first season in the green and gold for the Hornets in 2021, making 10 starts and finishing with a 4-6 record in net to go along with a 1.88 goals against average and 55 saves for a .743 save percentage.

She made her Sacramento State debut on Aug. 19 against Saint Mary's in the season opener, stopping a career-high 11 shots, and took over the full-time job on Oct. 8 against Idaho, earning the start in the team's final nine matches, which included clean sheets in a 1-0 win at Idaho State and a 1-0 upset of third-seeded Northern Arizona in the opening round of the Big Sky Tournament.
