SACRAMENTO -- On the second day of its two-day tournament at Hornet Beach, Sacramento State honored its three seniors - Ashtin Olin, Macey Hayden and McKenna Smith - who were playing their final career home matches.

The Hornets concluded the tournament by dropping matches against Boise State, 4-1, and San Jose State, 3-2.

Once again, Sacramento State had to forfeit the No. 5 doubles spot in both contests because of injuries.

The Hornets' duo of Olin and Smith continued to impress, winning both their matches today. The tandem picked up wins against Boise State, 14-21, 21-19, 15-13. at the No. 3. They moved up in the lineup to No. 2 against San Jose State, and pulled out a 21-17, 19-21, 15-13 victory. The tandem is now 9-3 this season, and have established themselves as one of the best doubles teams in program history.

When asked about their chemistry and success this season, Olin said, "We work really well together and our personalities mesh well on the sand. I'm happy I got to play my senior season next to (McKenna)."

The Hornets' match against San Jose State went down to the wire with every doubles contest lasting three sets. However, the Hornets ultimately fell, 3-2. The first two games of the dual at the No. 3 and No.4 pairs went to the Spartans, but the Hornets won at both Nos. 1 and 2. Essentially, the Hornets lost the match because of their forfeit at the No. 5 spot.

 The two wins came from the No.1 pair of Bridgette Smith/Caitlin Volkmann, 11-21, 22-20, 16-14, and the No.2 pair of McKenna Smith/Olin.

The Hornets will play their final regular season matches when they travel to Davis on April 23 to play against UC Davis at 9 a.m. and San Francisco at 11 a.m. Sacramento State will then play in the Big West Tournament April 28-30 in San Luis Obispo.
