STOCKTON, Calif. -- Sacramento State earned a road win on Saturday morning, defeating Pacific, 3-2, at Raney Sand Volleyball Courts.
For the 12th straight match, the Hornets had to forfeit No. 5 doubles because they currently do not have enough healthy bodies to field five doubles teams. Still, despite beginning the match down, 1-0, the Hornets won three of the four doubles matches to secure a 3-2 victory.
Sacramento State got wins at No. 1 from Bridgette Smith/Caitlin Volkmann (21-18, 21-13), No. 3 from McKenna Smith/Ashtin Olin (21-14, 21-18) and at No. 4 from Caty Cordano/Karlee Soderberg (23-21, 19-21, 15-11).
The duo of Smith/Olin continues to impress as they are now 6-2 this season, all at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. Smith/Volkmann won their sixth match of the year, and Cordano/Soderberg won for the fourth time.
Sacramento State improved to 4-11 with the victory. With a full injury-free squad, the Hornets won two of their first three matches of the season. But have since gone 12 straight matches having to forfeit the No. 5 spot.
The Hornets return to action next week when they host a two-day, four-team tournament on Friday and Saturday at Hornet Beach. Sacramento State will play four times over two days, beginning on Friday vs. Boise State at 1 p.m., and Santa Clara at 5 p.m.
