MARIN, Calif. -- Sacramento State received wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, but it was not enough in a 3-2 loss at San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon.
For the 11th straight match, the Hornets had to forfeit at No. 5 doubles because they currently do not have enough healthy bodies to field five doubles teams.
Prior to today, Sacramento State (3-11) had been 2-0 this season against San Francisco (2-8), but the Dons were able to get the win today. The Hornets were 2-1 with a full squad before injuries threw a wrench into the season.
Sacramento State received wins at No. 1 from Bridgette Smith/Caitlin Volkmann (21-14, 21-18) and No. 2 from Macey Hayden/Kalani Hayes (21-19, 23-21).The combination of Smith/Volkmann now have five wins this season.
The Hornets fell in straight sets at No. 3 (Ashtin Olin/Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin) and No. 4 (Caty Cordano/Karlee Soderberg).
Sacramento State was playing its seventh match in five days.
The Hornets return to the sand on Saturday when they play at Pacific at 11 a.m.
