VOLLEYBALL DROPS REGULAR SEASON FINALE IN 5 SETS TO PORTLAND STATE; BIG SKY TOURNEY NEXT WEEK

SACRAMENTO -- Portland State's Parker Webb had 23 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, and the Vikings overcame a 5-0 deficit in the fifth set to beat Sacramento State, 3-2 (24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9), on Friday evening in the Nest.

Tonight marked the regular season finale for both teams. The Hornets had their three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-14 overall and 10-6 in the Big Sky Conference. It marked the third straight season with 10 conference wins.

Sacramento State will now turn its attention to next week's Big Sky Tournament in Ogden, Utah, where the team will be either the No. 4 or 5 seed. Should Weber State beat Montana tomorrow night at 5 p.m. PST in Ogden, the Hornets would be the 4 seed and play Montana on Wednesday in the quarterfinal round. If Montana beats Weber State, the Hornets would be the 5 seed and play Weber State in the quarters.

The single elimination, eight-team tournament begins on Wednesday with quarterfinal matches, followed by the semis on Friday and championship on Saturday (Nov. 26). For more information on next week's Big Sky Tournament, click here.

Portland State ends the regular season with a 16-11 overall record and 11-5 in league. The Vikings will either be the No. 2 or 3 seed at the Big Sky Tournament depending on tomorrow night's outcomes. PSU swept the season series over the Hornets, which included a four-set win in Portland on Oct. 22.

After the Hornets and Vikings split the first two sets in front of a crowd of 753 fans, things were looking good for Sacramento State after jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the fifth. However, Portland State would score 15 of the next 19 points, and limit the Hornets to a .000 (3-3-22) hitting percentage in the frame.

The Hornets received a career-high 14 kills from middle blocker Kalani Hayes who also had six blocks and a .500 hitting percentage. Setter Ashtin Olin, who was honored prior to the match on Senior Night, finished with four kills, 42 assists, two aces, 14 digs and three blocks. Caitlin Volkmann posted her third double-double of the season with 12 kills, 11 digs and season-best six blocks.

Outside hitter Bridgette Smith had 12 kills and 11 digs (her seventh double-double), and middle Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin added five kills and four blocks. Caty Cordano finished the regular season with 23 matches in double-figure digs as she finished with 15. Greta Davis had seven digs, and Ellie Tisko five kills
