VOLLEYBALL NOW 7-4 IN LEAGUE AFTER SWEEP OF NORTHERN ARIZONA

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State hit a season-best .390, and controlled the match throughout in a three-set sweep of Northern Arizona (25-15, 25-12, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon in the Nest.

With the win, Sacramento State improved to 11-12 overall and 7-4 in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets get back on the winning track after falling at home to Northern Colorado on Thursday. Sacramento State has now won 11 of its last 12 home games vs. conference opposition dating back to last season.

In addition, Sacramento State swept the season series over NAU, which included a five-set win in Flagstaff on Sept. 29. The Hornets are now 26-2 all-time when playing the Lumberjacks at home.

Just three weeks remain in the regular season, and Sacramento State is currently among the conference's top four teams. Eight of the Big Sky's 10 teams qualify for the conference tournament, which begins Nov. 23 in Ogden, Utah.

The Hornets, who had 25 more kills than NAU, finished with 51 kills and just 10 errors in 105 attacks. In fact, five Sacramento State players hit better than .300. The team was led by Kalani Hayes' 10 kills, seven blocks and .667 hitting percentage. The junior middle blocker had zero errors in 15 swings. Fellow middle blocker Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin had eight kills with a .727 hitting percentage. The two middles combined for 18 kills without an error in 26 swings.

Outside hitter Bridgette Smith had a big match, finishing with 16 kills, 15 digs and a .317 hitting percentage. The 16 kills were six more than any other player on the floor, and eight more than any NAU player. Setter Asthin Olin had three kills, 44 assists, two aces, six digs, four blocks and a .400 hitting percentage.

Libero Caty Cordano, who missed the previous two matches with injury, was back today and finished with 11 digs. Caitlin Volkmann had eight kills, two aces and seven digs, Ellie Tisko five kills and five digs, and Greta Davis five digs.

Sacramento State, which has just five matches left in the regular season, will play on the road next week against the Montana schools. That includes a Thursday matchup at Montana State (6 pm PT), and Saturday at Montana (11 am PT).
