Box Score FRESNO, Calif. -- Hailey Dolcini threw a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and Fresno State scored in four different innings on the way to a 4-0 win over Sacramento State in the three-game series finale Sunday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond.
The victory allowed Fresno State (6-5) to sweep the three-game series over the Hornets (3-8) as the two teams played a doubleheader yesterday. Originally, this weekend was supposed to be a three-team tournament, but Long Beach State dropped out on Thursday allowing the Hornets and Bulldogs to play a three-game set.
Much like yesterday when Dolcini did not allow a base runner in five innings against the Hornets, she was at it again today, allowing just four singles with one walk and 11 strikeouts over seven innings.
Sacramento State had one base runner in each of the first six innings, but never got a runner past second base. Haley Hanson had two of the Hornets' four hits, while Shea Graves and Katie Vretzos also had knocks.
Marissa Bertuccio (3-3) got the loss for the Hornets, allowing three runs in three-plus innings. For the second straight day, freshman Kelsey Alcantara was effective in the circle for Sacramento State, yielding just one run without a walk in three innings of relief work.
Of Fresno State's 12 hits, seven went for extra bases, including Adrianna Noriega who clubbed a solo homer in the sixth. The Bulldogs scored a run in the first, third, fourth and six innings.
Sacramento State returns to action next week when it hosts the Capital Classic. The Hornets will play six games at Shea Stadium, including doubleheaders on Thursday vs. UC Davis, Friday vs. Santa Clara, and Sunday vs. Pacific. All three of those doubleheaders will begin at 11:30 a.m.
