MULTIPLE HORNETS NAMED AMONG COUNTRY'S BEST BY D1 BASEBALL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Multiple Hornets were named among D1 Baseball's recent top players lists, including Scott Randall, Parker Brahms, Matt Smith, Ryan Walstad, and Travis Adams.

D1 Baseball is one of the country's premiere college baseball outlets, providing news, analysis and commentary, scores, and more. With the 2020 college baseball season cut short, the organization released its 2020 top player lists.

D1 Baseball's Top 100 Pitchers (2019-20) 

36. RHP Scott Randall

Junior Scott Randall was ranked #36 on D1 Baseball's Top 100 Pitchers for the 2019-20 seasons. Randall was a combined 10-3 with a 2.41 ERA in 21 games (19 starts). He posted a 6.76 K/9 and 3.04 K:BB ratio. After four weeks of the 2020 season, Randall ranked fifth in the country with a 23.0 K:BB ratio and sixth in the nation with an 0.35 B/9.

83. RHP Parker Brahms 

Senior Parker Brahms was ranked #83 on D1 Baseball's Top 100 Pitchers for the 2019-20 seasons. After battling injury in 2019 – he finished 4-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 19 games (15 starts) – Brahms was off to an absolutely dominant start to his senior campaign. Through four weeks, Brahms was 2-1 with a 1.14 ERA. He was one of two qualified pitchers in the nation to have not walked a batter and led the WAC with 32 strikeouts in 23.2 innings (four games, four starts).

D1 Baseball's Top 50 Senior Pitchers (2020)

14. RHP Parker Brahms

Through four weeks of the 2020 season, Brahms was 2-1 with a 1.14 ERA. He was one of two qualified pitchers in the nation to have not walked a batter and struck out 32 in 23.2 innings (four games, four starts). Brahms led the WAC with 32 strikeouts, a 0.76 WHIP, and a 0.00 BB/9 while ranking second in ERA (1.14), and starts (4). In February, Brahms became Sacramento State's all-time strikeout leader, finishing his senior season with 288 total strikeouts.

D1 Baseball's Top 50 Senior Hitters (2020)

42. OF Matt Smith

Senior outfielder Matt Smith was ranked #42 among the country's 50 best senior hitters. Smith slashed .298/.414/.526 in 16 games (57 at bats) with three home runs and nine RBIs. He led the Hornets in slugging and home runs and was tied for the team lead in doubles. He was also the toughest on the Hornets to strike out, going down just six times all year. Smith started all 16 of the Hornets' games in 2020 in left field.

46. INF Ryan Walstad

Senior infielder Ryan Walstad came in at 46 on D1's list of the nation's top 50 Senior hitters. He led the Hornets in both batting average, hitting .321 in 16 games, and on-base percentage, reaching at a .416 clip. His 13 runs were most on the team while his 17 hits, two doubles, and nine RBIs were all tied for second most. Walstad started all 16 of Sacramento State's games in 2020, splitting his time between first and second base.

D1 Baseball's Top 50 Sophomore Pitchers (2020)

47. RHP Travis Adams 

Sophomore starter Travis Adams was ranked #47 on D1 Baseball's list of the country's top 50 sophomore pitchers. Adams was off to an excellent start to his sophomore campaign, posting a 2-1 record with a 1.57 ERA in 23.0 innings of work. He threw a career-high seven innings in each of his last two starts, including seven shutout frames in a win on the road at UC Irvine. Adams ranked among the WAC's best in ERA (1.57, 3rd), starts (4, 2nd), K:BB ratio (9.5, 3rd), WHIP (0.87, 4th), and BB/9 (0.78, 4th).
