MEN'S SOCCER CAN'T OVERCOME TWO EARLY GOALS IN LOSS TO USD

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- The Sacramento State men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to San Diego in its opening game of the Copa de Causeway on Friday afternoon at Hornet Field. The loss dropped the Hornets to 1-3 overall while the Torreros improved to 2-2.

San Diego scored both of its goals in the opening half. Miguel Barry broke through the backline in the 33rd minute for the game-winning goal. The goal was set up from a pass by Allen Luhrs who found Berry at the top of the 18-yard box. 

A little over six minutes later, USD went up 2-0 when on Freddy Polzer's first goal of the season. Polzer took a pass from the left sideline from Reuben Dass and hammered a shot into the lower left corner of the goal.

Sacramento State put pressure on San Diego in the second half but could not find the net. The Hornets had five shots in the period and created five corner kicks in the second half. However, just one shot was on frame in the period as Thomas Olsen recorded the win with his second consecutive shutout.

James Del Curto recorded four saves for Sacramento State. Jack Larter had two shots to pace the team with six other players recording one.

The Hornets will continue play in the Copa de Causeway on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. against Loyola Marymount. The Lions fell at UC Davis on Friday.
