WOMEN'S TENNIS TOPPED BY #55 FRESNO STATE 6-1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Hornet sophomore Olivia Boija improved to 3-0 this season with a win at No. 6 singles and four of the six singles matches went to a third set tiebreak, but No. 55 Fresno State pulled out wins in each of the top-five singles matches and earned the doubles point for a 6-1 win.

Boija remained undefeated in singles play at the No. 6 position. She dropped the first set of her match against Fresno State's Anne Susdorf but battled back for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory. The sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden has dropped just one set so far this season in singles play.

Boija also earned a doubles win on Saturday, teaming with senior Sophie Lohscheidt to defeat Fresno State's duo of Sofya Malysheva and Tanya Murtagh in a 6-5 win at No. 2. The Bulldogs took the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches, however, to claim the first point of the match.

At No. 1 singles Sacramento State sophomore Jennifer Nguyen pushed No. 104-ranked Sophie Watts to a third set but was narrowly edged 4-6, 7-5, 10-4. Freshman Alina Soltanici also forced a third set playing at No. 2 but dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 decision. Fresno State won in straight sets at No. 3 and 4 and Lohscheidt fell in three sets at No. 5 as the Bulldogs claimed the victory.

Sacramento State dropped to 0-3 with the loss while Fresno State improved to 1-2. The Hornets are on the road for their next five matches starting with a pair next weekend against Arizona and UTEP in Tucson.
