Box Score

GREELEY, Colo. – With just three minutes and one second left in regulation time Hornet sophomore Adaurie Dayak put in a goal off a free kick from freshman Chelsea Arnold to break a scoreless tie and give Sacramento State a 1-0 win over Northern Colorado.

Following the goal by Dayak, who also had a goal and an assist against North Dakota on Friday, Northern Colorado had a corner kick and missed two shots wide over the final two minutes of play as the Hornets hung on for the win.

With the win Sacramento State (8-9-0, 3-5-0 Big Sky) moved to within two points back of a potential Big Sky Tournament berth with two games left to play. The Hornets have nine points in conference play while the teams currently in the final qualifying spots have 11. Northern Colorado (8-7-2, 3-3-1 Big Sky) is just ahead of Sacramento State with 10 points but with the win on Sunday the Hornets own the tiebreaker over the Bears.

Sacramento State senior goalkeeper Kimberly Mata made two saves in the first half and also got some help from the framework as UNC's Adrienne Jordan hit the post in the 21st minute. The Hornets placed four shots on goal in the half but Bears goalkeeper Kaitlin Ruff made the necessary saves.

Overall the Hornets had a 15-11 edge in shots, including an 8-6 edge in the second half, and totaled a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Ruff made four more saves in the second half to keep the game scoreless into the final minutes while Mata finished with five saves for her second shutout of the weekend.

Sacramento State had seven corner kick to three by the Bears and 11 different Hornets attempted shots in the game with nine placing shots on goal. Dayak took over the team lead with three goals and eight points for the season and Arnold picked up her second career assist.

After their 5-0 thrashing of North Dakota on Friday the Hornets completed a perfect weekend with their late win on Sunday. In the two road games Sacramento State totaled a 39-21 advantage in shots and had a 22-8 edge in shots on goal with the 6-0 aggregate score.

Sacramento State has two Big Sky regular season games left as it continues its push for the postseason. The Hornets play their final home game on Friday hosting Big Sky newcomer Idaho at 4 p.m. before closing the regular season at Portland State the following Friday. Idaho and Portland State are currently tied for second in the Big Sky standings.
