WOMEN'S SOCCER STUMBLES AT UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Sacramento State women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to UNLV on Friday night at Peter Johann Field in its first game at the UNLV Nike Invitational.

The Hornets (1-3-1) lost their third straight while the Rebels (4-2-1) won their third straight. Sacramento State has allowed eight second-half goals over the last three games. 

It was scoreless at halftime, but the Rebels scored in the 55th minute and again in the 89th minute, just 74 seconds before the end of the game. Jenn Wolfe scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season in the game on assists by Susie Bernal and Kristin Sankey.

Sophomore Kimberly Mata started in net for the Hornets and made an impressive seven saves with two goals allowed. UNLV keeper Kylie Wassell made four saves in a clean sheet performance.

As a team, UNLV placed nine of its 15 shots on goal while the Hornets had eight total shot attempts with four on frame. The Hornets had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. 

Sacramento State will stay in Las Vegas this weekend with its second and final game at the UNLV Nike Invitational scheduled for Sunday. The Hornets will play Indiana State at 10:30 a.m. PT.
