SCHROEDER’S LATE EQUALIZER FORGES 1-1 DRAW WITH NORTHERN ARIZONA

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Junior Lexi Schroeder netted her second goal of the year in the 82nd minute on Sunday afternoon, erasing a one-goal Northern Arizona lead and helping the Sacramento State women's soccer team split the points with the Lumberjacks following a 1-1 draw at Hornet Soccer Field.

The Hornets earned their first draw of the year, moving to 5-6-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Big Sky Conference play after a 1-0 win at Northern Colorado last Thursday. Sacramento State is now unbeaten in its last eight (4-0-4) league regular season matches dating back to a loss at Eastern Washington on Sept. 29 of last year.

NAU remained unbeaten on the road (2-0-4) in 2025, moving to 4-2-5 overall and 1-0-1 in league.

Following a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Lumberjacks were the first to get on the board in the 54th minute after one of their players was taken down from behind inside the 18 and was awarded a penalty kick. Micala Boex then converted for her fifth goal of the year right down the middle for the 1-0 lead.

It stayed that way until the final 10 minutes when the Hornets' chase for the tying goal ended off the left foot of Schroeder to make it 1-1. A long throw into the box by Isabella Vinsonhaler was deflected toward the top of the 18 by an NAU defender, but right to the feet of Ellie Farber.

Farber then chipped a ball back inside to the top of the six where Schroeder was able to guide the ball around the charging Lumberjack goalkeeper and into the net to bring Sacramento State level.

Neither team was able to get off another shot in the final 8:54 as the horn sounded on the draw.

The Hornets finished with a 16-14 shot advantage, including holding Northern Arizona to just two attempts in the second half. Of those 16 attempts, nine came off the foot of leading scorer Tea Reyes — the most shot attempts by a Sacramento State player in a single match since Jordan Carlberg had nine against Northern Arizona on Oct. 14, 2011.

Junior goalkeeper Izzy Palmatier finished with four saves on the day, not allowing a goal during the run of play, while 'Jacks keeper Reece Reichwald made seven stops in 84 minutes before leaving with an injury.

Sacramento State stays home for its next two matches, hosting Idaho on Thursday (Oct. 2) at 3 p.m., and welcoming Eastern Washington on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m.
