SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the second consecutive week, a Sacramento State men's soccer player has the national spotlight shined on him as junior midfielder
Hiroshi Yang was one of 11 players named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 30).
Adding on to his offensive player of the week honor from The Big West, Yang becomes the second Hornet in as many weeks to earn a spot on the national team of the week. Teammate
Zac Giles was named to the team on Sept. 22 following his five-point performance in a win over Pacific.
Yang becomes the fourth Hornet in the last three seasons to be recognized among the top 11 in any given week by Top Drawer Soccer, joining Giles,
Donovan Sessoms (Oct. 22, 2024), and
Fernando Venegas (Sept. 17, 2024). Those four awards are the most of any Big West school in that span.
The Wheatland, Calif., native finished with two goals in the Hornets' 3-1 victory over UC Riverside last week, staking his team to the early two-goal advantage with a pair of highlight reel scores — including one that ranked No. 9 on that night's SportsCenter Top 10.
Now with three goals and a pair of assists on the year, Yang ranks second on the team with eight points and a pair of assists while standing tied for second on the team in goals
He ranks among the top 10 in The Big West in shots (17- t8th), shots per game (2.13 - t8th), shots on goal (8 - t7th), goals (t5th), assists (t9th), and points (t4th).
Yang and his teammates open Big West play with a pair of matches this week, traveling to UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday night (Sept. 30) at 7 p.m., before coming home to host Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday (Oct. 3) at 4 p.m.
