SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's and men's cross country teams will compete for the second time this season when they race at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning. The women's 6K race begins at 7:15 a.m. and the men's 8K race start at 7:50 p.m. The meet will also feature a women's open 5K and a men's open 8K following the invitational races.
 
The Hornets opened their season at the USF Invitational on Sept. 4 in Golden Gate Park. The men placed sixth overall and were led by Ryan Martin who finished in 19^th place. The women's team were eighth in the team standings and were guided by freshman Taylor Wellersdick who was 30^th.
 
The UCR Invitational features a large field which includes 18 NCAA Div. I schools, 25 other four-year institutions and 10 junior colleges. Last season, Sacramento State saw Tia Oliver and Martin each finish in the top 20. The women's team finished third among NCAA Div. I programs and sixth overall while the men were 13^th. Oliver ran 20:48.9 to place 13^th while Martin crossed in 24:13.4 to take 19^th place. The pair also had the best times on the team at the meet in 2024.
