CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Sacramento State competed four boats on the first day of the Triton Invitational, highlighted by each of those boats winning a race.

In all, Sacramento State went 5-4 in its duals today as the varsity eight was 1-1, second varsity eight 1-1, varsity four 1-1, and second varsity four 2-1. Each boat competed in one race in the afternoon, followed by another race in the afternoon.

The regatta, hosted by UC San Diego, was held at Lower Otay Lake - home of the United States Olympic Training Center. The Hornets will compete again at the event tomorrow morning.

Sacramento State's varsity eight fell to San Diego in the morning, and beat Portland in the afternoon, posting their best time of 6:44.30 during the morning session. 

The Hornets' second varsity eight and second varsity four both beat San Diego, but lost to Portland. The second varsity four beat a pair of boats from San Diego in the morning, but lost to Portland in the afternoon.

Sacramento State is back tomorrow morning when all four boats compete again, this time against Gonzaga and host UC San Diego. That includes the varsity eight at 8:20 a.m., second varsity eight at 8:30 a.m., varsity four at 8:40 a.m., and second varsity four at 8:50 a.m.
