GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Sacramento State took home a first place finish, and three second place finishes on Saturday morning at the season-opening Sacramento State Invitational on Lake Natoma.

A total of five teams were at the regatta, including the Hornets, Portland, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara and Orange Coast College. Crews raced with 9-12 mile per hour crosshead winds, and a flow rate of 1,500 cubic feet per second.

The varsity eight posted a 2,000-meter winning time of 6:55.3, which was at least five seconds faster than any other crew. Saint Mary's was second with a 7:00.3, Portland (7:08.5) and Santa Clara (7:22.3).

The Hornets' second varsity eight (7:20.1), varsity four (8:06.1) and novice four (7:47.7) each placed second in their race, while the third varsity eight posted a third-place time of 7:53.4.

Sacramento State will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the Hornet Invitational on Saturday.
