EUGENE, Ore. -- Despite Sacramento State right-hander
Danyelle Leone allowing just two hits and two unearned runs to the 18th-ranked team in the nation, the Hornets fell to Oregon, 2-1, on Saturday evening at the Jane Sanders Classic.
Leone was brilliant, as the only runs Oregon could muster were two-out, unearned runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The game was scoreless through five, before the Ducks got on the board after a Hornet error with two outs in the sixth allowed the game's first run.
The Hornets tied the game in the seventh after
Madison Evers-Lyles led off the inning with a solo home run. However, Oregon walked the Hornets off in the bottom half, after another Sacramento State error with two outs allowed the winning run to score.
Sacramento State (18-6), which walked off Oregon State earlier today, is now 2-2 at the three-day tournament. Its only two losses came by one run to Oregon (including a 7-6 defeat yesterday). The Ducks improved to 17-7.
Both teams finished the game with just two hits as Maddie Milhorn (6.0 IP) and Lyndsey Grein (1.0 IP) were effective for Oregon in the circle.Â
Besides Evers-Lyles, the Hornets other hit came in the first inning on a
Saskia Raab single. She has reached base safely in every game this season.
Sacramento State concludes the three-day tournament tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. vs. Oregon State.
