SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The No. 58 Sacramento State women's tennis team mover to 3-0 in Big Sky Conference play with a dominating 6-1 win over visiting Northern Arizona on Sunday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.
The Hornets won their fifth consecutive dual in improving to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in league play, while extending their home winning streak to 14 consecutive matches dating back to March 6 of last season.
Playing in only their seventh dual of the spring, the Lumberjacks fell to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Big Sky play.
Sacramento State swept through the doubles matches for only the second time this season to take an early lead with the team of Lou Baudouin and Emilija Pranyte providing the clinching victory with a 6-4 win at No. 2. Cami Maldonado Gutierrez and Reese Walker were the first off with a 6-4 win at No. 3, while Irene Riva and Palina Saulevich needed a tiebreaker to win at No. 1 by a 7-6 (2) score.
The Hornets then quickly won five of the first six singles contests — one via walk-over and four in straight-sets — to claim victory. Northern Arizona took home its only point of the day with a hard-fought, 7-5, 7-6 (4), win at the No. 1 singles spot.
Sacramento State hits the road for the second time in conference play next week, traveling to Eastern Washington on Friday (March 20) at 11 a.m., and Idaho on Sunday (March 22) at 10 a.m.
