GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's rowing team, competing in its second spring regatta at Lake Natoma, saw both its varsity eight and second varsity eight post a pair of victories at the Hornet Invitational.
Today's racing featured a morning and afternoon session, and the Hornets competed a varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four in both sessions. The teams raced on a 2,000 meter course, and the Hornet Invitational also featured crews from Kansas State, UC San Diego, Saint Mary's and Cal Poly Humboldt.
Competing with a current of 2,500 cfs all day, morning racing featured minimal winds, but the wind kicked up to 8-13 miles per hour in the afternoon.
The Hornets' varsity eight, who beat Kansas State by nearly seven seconds, and has now defeated Wildcats on six straight occasions, which includes victories in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 and 2025.
The varsity eight won both its races by open water, which included a victory by nearly 13 seconds in the afternoon. The Hornets' top boat is already 7-0 in dual-meet races this season. Sacramento State posted a 6:47.4 in the morning, and 6:57.1 in the afternoon.
Sacramento State's second varsity eight also had a big day, beating Kansas State by over 26 seconds in the morning, and then posting an afternoon win over UC San Diego by nearly five seconds. The boat posted a 7:04.3 in the morning, and 7:20.5 in the afternoon.
The Hornets' varsity four finished third in the morning, and second in the afternoon.
The Hornets return to the water in two weeks when they compete at the San Diego Crew Classic at Crown Point Shores on March 28-29.
