WOMEN’S TENNIS TOPPLES TITANS FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The No. 58 Sacramento State women's tennis team claimed the doubles point then received straight-set wins at three of the top four spots in the singles lineup en route to a 4-2 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton on Friday afternoon on campus.

The Hornets improved to 10-4 overall on the year and claimed their fourth-straight victory heading into a Big Sky Conference clash on Sunday (March 15) against Northern Arizona. The Titans, meanwhile, suffered only their third dual defeat of the season, falling to 10-3 on the year.

Sacramento State's tandem of Irene Riva and Palina Saulevich, who were playing together for the first time this spring, won the doubles point clincher at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, outlasting Fullerton's duo of Emilie Lugon-Moulin and Chloe Schwarz for a 7-5 victory.

Lou Baudouin and Emilija Pranyte got the Hornets on the board first with a win at No. 2, defeating Martina Markov and Seha Yu, 6-3.

Riva and Saulevich became the seventh different Sacramento State pairing to clinch a doubles point this year, with Saulevich a pair of four of those and Riva with three.

A win at No. 5 for the Titans evened the match at one apiece before Cami Maldonado Gutierrez handed Yu a, 6-1, 6-3, defeat at No. 4 to regain the lead for Sacramento State. Cal State Fullerton responded with a win at No. 6 before the Hornets closed it out.

Reese Walker held-off Markov for a 6-4, 7-5, win at No. 1 and Riva came through with the match clincher thanks to a 7-5, 6-0, win over Amelia Zylberman at No. 3. Baudouin was leading her match at No. 2 with a set already in hand before Sacramento State clinched the victory.

The win was the team-best third clinching point for Riva this season — one of four Hornets to have clinched multiple matches with victories this season.

First serve on Sunday against the Lumberjacks is scheduled for 11 a.m. on campus. Northern Arizona, which last played on March 7, falling to UNLV by a 7-0 score, enters the weekend with a 2-4 overall record, but has defeated conference rival Weber State, 5-2, back on March 1 to open its conference schedule.
