GYMNASTICS REMAINS ON THE ROAD FOR QUAD AT UTAH STATE ON MONDAY NIGHT

Hornets to face USU, Southern Utah and Alaska Anchorage

OPENING PASS

  • Sacramento State will, once again, face some of the nation's top teams as the Hornets compete in a four-team meet at Utah State on Monday, Feb. 9, at 5:30 p.m. PT. Along with facing the 27th-ranked Aggies, Sacramento State will also take on #26 Southern Utah and Alaska Anchorage.
  • This week is the third-consecutive quad meet for Sacramento State. The only other four-teamer during the regular season will come Mar. 1 at San Jose State. Last week, Sacramento State scored 193.425 to finish in a four-tem meet at Boise State which was won by Utah State.

OPPONENT PREVIEW

  • Despite winning the meet last week, Utah State dropped one spot in the ranking to 27th overall. The Aggies hosted a three-team meet on Friday in which they defeated Alaska Anchorage and fell to Air Force. USU has scored at least 195.050 in its first five meets of the year and owns a high of 196.075 at Oregon State. Utah State leads the all-time series against the Hornets, 16-13.
  • Southern Utah is one spot ahead of Utah State in the standings, entering this week at 26th. The T-Birds lost a home meet to BYU on Friday night before making the in-state trek to Logan, Utah on Monday. SUU has been extremely consistent in its first five meets, scoring between 195.525 and 196.000 in each contests. Southern Utah is led by a pair of strong all-arounders in Mia Hampton and Niya Randolph who are averaging 39.213 and 39.181, respectively. The T-Birds hold a 19-7 lead in the all-time series.
  • Monday will be the second of three meetings between Sacramento State and Alaska Anchorage this season. The Hornets downed the Seawolves in the season opener and now lead the all-time series, 65-4. Alaska has competed just three times this season prior to Friday night. The team's high score of 190.275 came against Wilberforce on Jan. 23.

A LOOK AT THE LAST MEET

  • Sacramento State set its season high on bars and had some strong individual performances but counted a pair of falls in a four-team meet at Boise State on Jan. 30. The Hornets tallied 48.550 on bars and had 10 total routines of 9.7 or better.
  • Individually, Lexie Frank tied for first place on beam with a 9.825 an Kara Houghton was third on bars after receiving the same score. Sarah Lutrel also posted her highest all-around of the season at 38.700.

WINNERS CIRCLE

  • Behind a career-high 9.825, sophomore Lexie Frank finished in a four-way tie for first place at the Boise State quad last Friday. Frank's win made her the ninth member of the current team to at least share an event title during their career. She is the sixth current Hornet to record a win on beam, joining Sarah Lutrel (eight times), Athena Jones (twice), Rylin Zimmerman (twice), Kara Houghton (once) and Kaitlyn Driessen (once).
  • This season, Sacramento State has had at least one individual winner on each event as well as the all-around. Along with Frank's win on beam, Sarah Lutrel has won on vault, beam and in the all-around; Jillianne Lastra on bars and Kara Houghton on floor.

ADD IT UP

  • Through the early portion of the 2026 season, Sacramento State has shown it has the ability to contend with the top tier teams in the country. Taking the top event scores in the four meets, the Hornets have the ability to score at least 195.300. This season, Sacramento State has already scored 48.750 on vault, 48.550 on bars, 49.050 on beam and 48.950 on floor.

ALL-AROUND SUCCESS

  • Sarah Lutrel put together her best all-around of the season, totaling 38.700 in the quad meet at Boise State. Lutrel scored 9.725 on vault, 9.500 on bars, 9.675 on beam and 9.800 on floor. While her total was a season-high only Lutrel's floor score matched her season best.
  • Big all-around scores are nothing new to the senior. During her career, she has scored 39 or more points nine times. Her career high of 39.425 came during her sophomore seasons (2024) in the dual against Air Force where the team set the school scoring record.

NEWS & NOTES

  • Half of Sacramento State's 24 competitive routines at Boise State game from freshmen and sophomores.
  • The Hornets have been or currently are in the same conference with the three other schools in this week's meet. Sacramento State and Utah State were members of the Western Athletic Conference from 2006-13. The Hornets won the conference title in 2006 and 2007. After leaving the WAC, the Hornets joined the MPSF where it was joined by Alaska Anchorage. Southern Utah has crossed both leagues with Sacramento State, being a WAC member from 2006-13 and then coming into the MPSF in 2024.
  • The 2026 roster features gymnasts from six states comprised of nine from California, four from Colorado, two from Arizona and one each from Florida, Illinois and Washington.
