GYMNASTICS SCORES SEASON HIGH TO CLOSE OUT HOME MEETS

Hornets tally 194.900 in battle with pair of ranked teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the second-straight meet, the Sacramento State gymnastics team recorded a season high as the Hornets scored 194.900 on Senior Night at The Nest on Friday. No. 16 Cal won the meet with a 196.875 while No. 31 San Jose State placed second at 196.000.
 
Sacramento State opened the meet with a 48.175 on vault and was led by Cady Gaumont (9.700) and Rose Wilson (9.675). The team responded with a season-high 48.975 in the second rotation on bars. Senior Kara Houghton received a 9.825 to finish in seventh place while Chloe Cohen (career-high tying), Jillianne Lastra and McKenna Carnesi each scored 9.800 to tie for eighth.
 
The Hornets posted a 49.000 on beam for the second-consecutive meet. A week after winning the event with a then-career-high 9.875, Driessen scored 9.900 to tie for third. Her score matched senior Sarah Lutrel who set her season best in her final beam routine at home. Lexi Frank provided a career-high 9.875 to tie for fifth.
 
Sacramento State wrapped up the meet on floor with a 48.750. Kara Houghton, the final gymnast of the meet, scored a season-best tying 9.875 to tie for third. Athena Jones ranked second on the team, and tied for eighth overall, with a 9.825 to tie her season best.
 
Cal's Tonya Paulson led three all-arounders in the meet with a four-event total of 39.500.
 
The Hornets will have a quick turnaround as the team will compete in a quad-meet at San Jose State on Sunday afternoon which also includes Arizona State and Boise State.
