THIRD HOME WIN IN FIVE NIGHTS! MEN’S BASKETBALL RACES TO 104-90 VICTORY OVER WEBER STATE

SACRAMENTO -- All five Hornet starters scored in double figures, and the Hornets went over the century mark in a 104-90 victory over Weber State on Monday evening at Hornet Pavilion.

The 104 points are the most for the Hornets vs. a Div. I team since 2007, and the team's fourth highest total vs. a Big Sky team since joining the league in 1996. Sacramento State scored over 50 points in both halves while posting seasons highs in field goal percentage (.615, 32-52) , 3-point field goal percentage (.632, 12-19) and free throws made (28). The Hornets shot 78% (28-36) from the free throw line, and held a 21-point halftime lead (53-32).

The Hornets led by double figures the final 26 minutes of the game, and used a 13-0 first-half run to break things open. At one point during the second half, Weber State converted on 11 straight field goals, but that spurt still could not get the Wildcats any closer than 11 points of Sacramento State's lead.

The Hornets won their seventh straight at home, and improved to 5-0 at home in Big Sky Conference play for just the second time. Tonight completed a stretch in which Sacramento State won three home games over a five-day span. That included Thursday's win over second-place Montana State, Saturday's victory over second-place Montana, and tonight's victory over fourth place Weber State.

Sacramento State, playing its best basketball of the season, improved to 9-13 overall and 5-5 in the Big Sky. The Hornets have won a season-high three straight games, and five of their last seven. In addition, the team is now 3-0 on its season-long four game homestand which concludes Saturday night vs. conference-leading Portland State.

Tonight's win also avenged a loss to Weber State (11-12, 5-5) earlier this season in Ogden. One game past the midway point of the Big Sky season, Weber State is the first Big Sky opponent the Hornets are playing for a second time.

Sacramento State has inched up into a two-way tie for fifth place in the Big Sky standings with just eight games left in the regular season. The top six teams receive a first round bye at the Big Sky Tournament (March 7-11) in Boise, Idaho.

Senior guard Prophet Johnson, who was named the CollegeInsider National Player of the Week earlier today, continued his onslaught of the Big Sky. He finished with 35 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. He shot 11-of-16 from the field, 3-for-5 from the 3-point line and 10-of-13 from the free throw line. During the first three games of the homestand, he is averaging a ridiculous 29.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 steals while shooting 64% from the field and 67% from the 3-point line.

The 35 points tied Johnson's career high and are the fifth most by a Hornet during the program's Div. I era (1991-pres.).

Jahni Summers matched his career high with 22 points as the sharp shooter was 8-for-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from distance while adding career bests in assists (5) and steals (5). Freshman forward Mark Lavrenov fell just short of his sixth double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds (10-of-12 free throws).

Mikey Williams added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Shaqir O'Neal posted 10 points and four rebounds. Summers was a +21 plus/minus and O'Neal was a +17. Arman Madi added seven points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench. The Hornet starting five combined for 87 points.

The Hornets conclude the four-game homestand this Saturday vs. first-place Portland State at 7 p.m. The Hornets fell to the Vikings earlier year in Portland on Jan. 10
