JACKSON’S THREE-POINT NIGHT LEADS WOMEN’S SOCCER IN A DRAW AT LONG BEACH STATE

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Junior Mia Jackson finished with a goal and an assist and teammate Jaety Mandaquit added another second-half goal to stake the Sacramento State women's soccer team to a 2-0 lead with 12 minutes to play, but host Long Beach State battled back, scoring twice in a span of three minutes to forge a 2-2 draw in Big West action on Saturday night at George Allen Field.

The Hornets were locked up for their third draw in their last four contests, moving to 4-3-5 overall and 0-1-3 in conference play. The five regular season draws are the most since the 2024 NCAA Tournament team finished with six during the regular season en route to a school-record nine draws overall.

With the result, The Beach moved to 6-2-5 overall and 0-1-3 as well in league matches.

Saturday night saw the team play to a scoreless draw after the first 45 minutes as goalkeeper Hayley Hartsburg made three of her career-high eight saves — including denying the conference's leading scorer, Cherrie Cox, on a penalty kick in the 31st minute to keep the match scoreless.

Sacramento State was the first on the board in the 54th minute — the eighth time in 12 matches that has happened this year — as Jules Colchico sent a ball toward the net that the Long Beach State goalkeeper was unable to handle and Jackson was there to put home the loose ball for the 1-0 lead.

It was Jackson's third goal of the year and her first since she scored twice in the regular season opener against Pacific on Aug. 13. Colchico also notched her second assist of the season on the initial attempt.

The Hornets made it a 2-0 lead in the 79th minute off a corner as Jackson sent a ball in to the box from the right side for Mandaquit, who made a run and headed it home to the left side from the top of the six-yard box to make it 2-0.

For Mandaquit, it was her second goal of the season and the fourth of her career, matching her scoring output from all of 2025. Meanwhile, Jackson's three-point night was the fifth multi-point match by a Sacramento State player this year.

Now chasing two goals, Long Beach State needed just 47 seconds to claw one of the scores back as Natalie Arnold found space on a run to the back left post and nodded in a cross by Nikki Velasco to return it to a one-goal deficit.

Three minutes later, it was Velasco again with the assist on the equalizer as her pass into the box was popped into the air and over a leaping Hornet keeper by Ameera White, knotting the match at two apiece in the 83rd minute.

Hartsburg made two more stops in the final seven minutes to keep The Beach off the board while Lexi Schroeder, Candace Ching, and Mandaquit all had attempts go wide of the net as the horn sounded.

Long Beach State finished with a 22-12 shot advantage, putting 10 of its attempts on frame to just four for the Hornets. Mandaquit's four attempts led Sacramento State as seven Hornets finished with shots, while Cox had seven attempts for The Beach, but was held out of the scoring column for only the fourth time this season.

Sacramento State gets a little bit of a break with only one match next week, hosting Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday (Oct. 10) at 4 p.m.
