GOLD RIVER, Calif. --- The Sacramento State women's rowing squad competed in its first race of the fall season at the Head of the American Saturday morning on Lake Natoma.

Saturday's racing took place on a three-mile course with a time trial start format. Sacramento State competed in four race categories - two entries in the Collegiate Eight (21-boat field), one in the Collegiate Four (15-boat field) and Collegiate Novice Eight (5-boat field), and four in the Pair (32-boat field).

Highlighting the day was the novice eight finishing first in its five-boat field, and winning by open water against each of other four crews. In fact, Sacramento State's winning time was 38 seconds faster than second-place Cal Poly Humboldt.

In the Collegiate Eight, boats from USC, Oregon State and Gonzaga took up the top eight spots. The Hornets had two entries, and the team's A boat finish 11th and the B boat placed 13th.

The Hornets' four placed ninth in its race, and the team's highest placing pair was 19th.

Results from every race of the day can be found by clicking on link at the top of the story. Sacramento State's lineups are below.

The Hornets have just one remaining fall race - a home scrimmage vs. Saint Mary's on Nov. 7.
