BOISE, Idaho — Lexi Frank tied for first place on beam but a short-handed Sacramento State gymnastics team could not keep pace in a four-team meet on Friday night at Boise State. The Hornets, who were having to fill in for several starting positions, finished the meet with a team score of 193.425. No. 26 Utah State won the meet at 195.350 and finished one-tenth ahead of the host Broncos. Air Force took third at 194.225.
 
Sacramento State started the night on floor with a 48.100 after being forced to count a fall. The middle of the lineup did its best to carry the team as Kaela Copeland and Athena Jones each scored 9.750 and Sarah Lutrel and Kara Houghton followed with 9.800s.
 
The score edged forward in the second rotation with a 48.225 on vault. Lutrel had the high score for the Hornets with a 9.725.
 
Bars proved to be the highest scoring event for Sacramento State during the night at 48.550. Houghton took third place overall with a 9.825 while Chloe Cohen (in the lineup for the first time this season) and Makayla Townsend ranked second on the team with 9.700s.
 
The individual highlight of the night for the Hornets came on beam where Lexi Frank tied for first with a career-high 9.825. Frank's score came in the final routine of the night and knotted her in a four-way tie for first place which featured one gymnast from each team.
 
Sacramento State will next compete in a four-way meet hosted by Utah State on Monday, Feb. 9. The meet will also include Southern Utah and Alaska Anchorage.
