WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT FIRST-PLACE MONTANA STATE

BOZEMAN, Mont. — The Sacramento State women's basketball team's trip to the "Treasure State" got off to a rocky start on Thursday night in Bozeman, Mont., as the Hornets fell to host and Big Sky Conference-leading Montana State by a 66-31 score at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

In the first game of a road stretch that will see Sacramento State play three games in the span of five days, the Hornets fell to 10-11 overall and had their league record evened-up at 4-4. The Bobcats, who shot 43 percent from the field for the game, improved to 15-5 overall and maintained their lead in the standings with an 8-1 conference mark.

No Sacramento State player finished in double figures as sophomore guard Rubi Gray finished with a team-high eight points while senior Fatoumata Jaiteh grabbed a game-high eight rebounds — just one off of her season high set at UC San Diego back on Nov. 12.

Led by three players in double figures, Montana State led wire-to-wire en route to the victory, opening the game on a 13-0 run and holding the Hornets off the scoreboard for the first 6:15 of the contest until Gray was able to find a lane and lay it in to break up the shutout.

All 10 of the Bobcats who saw time on the night finished with at least two points while the defense limited Sacramento State to 26 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Hornets, 45-28.

The road trip continues on Saturday (Jan. 31) as Sacramento State heads to Missoula, Mont., to take on Montana at 1 p.m. PT
