HONOLULU, Hawaii -- The junior trio of Irene Riva, Lou Baudouin, and Cami Maldonado Gutierrez each posted singles victories on the day, but the Sacramento State women's tennis team wasn't able to dig out of an early hole on Thursday afternoon, falling to host Hawai'i by a 4-3 score in the second dual of a three-match road trip in Honolulu.

Riva improved to 2-0 on the young season with her three-set marathon victory over Makeilah Nepomuceno at No. 2 singles, rebounding after a first-set loss to post a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, victory. Baudouin, who didn't play singles in the Hornets' season-opening win over Hawai'i Pacific, and Maldonado Gutierrez picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Baudouin defeated Sophie Rachor, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, to wrap up the day, while Maldonado Gutierrez posted a straight-set, 6-0, 7-5, win over Allaire Berl earlier in the day that gave the Hornets their first point.

After claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, the Rainbow Wahine posted a quick win at No. 1 singles to go up 2-0 in the match overall. After Maldonado Gutierrez cut the deficit in half, Hawai'i railed off wins No. 3 and No. 6 -- including tight first sets that went to a tiebreaker — to officially clinch the match.

The duo of Palina Saulevich and Reese Walker accounted for the team's win in doubles, finishing first with a 6-2 triuimph that improved the duo to 2-0 on the year.

Friday will see the Hornets and Rainbow Wahine battle for a second straight day with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
