VOLLEYBALL DOMINATES WEBER STATE IN IMPRESSIVE HOME VICTORY

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State's Victoria Marthaler (18), Keonahi'ilani Solaita (11) and Ashlynn Archer (8) combined for 37 kills to lead the Hornets to a convincing three-set sweep of Weber State (25-14, 25-22, 25-12) on Saturday afternoon in the Nest.

The Hornets hit .383, and had 15 more kills than Weber State (47-32). In fact, five of the Hornets' six starters hit better than .300, and the team wrapped things up by hitting a ridiculous .722 (14-1-18) in the third set. Sacramento State also had 10 aces with just three service errors, while the Wildcats had just one ace.

Weber State, second in the Big Sky Conference in hitting percentage, was limited to a .191 percentage - its third lowest mark of the season. Sacramento State led from start to finish in both the first and third sets, and used a 6-0 run to close out the second after trailing, 22-19.

The Hornets - winners of eight of their last 11 matches - improved to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the Big Sky. Today marked the team's Big Sky home opener. Weber State dropped to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in league.

Marthaler, a transfer from Weber State, did some serious damage to her old team. The sophomore had 18 kills (eight more than any WSU player) to go with nine digs and a .361 hitting percentage. She is now averaging 4.18 kills per set this season, easily the most by a Hornet and second most in the Big Sky.

Solaita, a true freshman, is averaging 2.85 kills per set and a .361 hitting percentage over her last four contests. During that span, she has improved her season high in kills three times, including a career-best 11 today to go with a .320 hitting percentage. Archer continued her assault on the opposition, finishing with eight kills in 13 swings, good for a match-high .615 hitting percentage.

Setter Kate Doorn had 39 assists and a season-best five aces. Amy Ito added two aces, Reese Ampi posted a match-high 12 digs, Greta Davis had six kills (.364 hit%) and three blocks, and Skyler Gartin led all players with four blocks.

The Hornets will net embark upon a three-match road trip, their longest of the conference season. That includes matchups at Portland State on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Northern Colorado (Oct. 9) and Northern Arizona (Oct. 11).
