FIVE FACTS FOR FOOTBALL VS. CAL POLY

All you need to know prior to the Big Sky opener against the Mustangs

1. What's Going On
Sacramento State will start Big Sky Conference play with a matchup against longtime-rival Cal Poly on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. Saturday's game will be Healthcare Appreciation Night as well as Latine Heritage Night. Following the game, fans will be treated to a fireworks show as well as a concert from Mariah Angeliq.

2. Make It Clear
Hornet Stadium has a clear bag policy in place this season. Bags should not exceed 12" long by 12" high by 6" wide. Small strapless bags not exceeding 4.5" by 6.5" will be allowed.

Several enhancements have been made to help with the entry process into Hornet Stadium which include a line for people without bags and additional screening points. Fans are also encouraged to beat the rush and enter Hornet Stadium at least 15 minutes prior to kickoff.

3. When Will We See You Again?
Saturday's game will be the 44th all-time meeting between the Hornets and Mustangs but it is unknown when the teams will play again on the gridiron. Cal Poly enters this week's contest with a narrow 22-21 lead in the all-time series following last season's 26-23 victory in San Luis Obispo. With Sacramento State departing the Big Sky Conference for The Big West the two schools will become familiar foes in nearly every other sport. Cal Poly, however, will remain in the Big Sky for football while the Hornets are currently slated to be an FCS independent next season and continue to explore FBS opportunities.

4. Tough Act To Follow
Sacramento State has won the first two games of this three-game homestand. Last week, the offense averaged 9.9 yards per play and the defense recorded eight sacks against Central Arkansas. The Hornets, again, took advantage of big plays as the team had six plays of at least 30 yards, including three of 50 yards or more. The night was headlined by Damain Henderson II who rushed for an 85-yard touchdown on his way to his first career 100-yard game. Henderson's dash ended up being the second-longest rush in school NCAA Div. I history, trailing only an 87-yarder by Ryan Mole in 2004. The record for the longest pass play in school history can only be tied as Aaron Garcia and Alex Ochoa currently hold the mark with a 99-yarder at Cal Poly in 1993.

5. How To Follow The Action
Hornet football returns to KMAX 31 and ESPN+ this season with Jason Ross and Darren Arbet calling the action. The game can also be heard on ESPN 1320 AM and the Audacy app with Dave Lewis (play-by-play), Steve McElroy (analyst) and Danny Sullivan (sideline).
