CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Despite 11 kills apiece from
Ashlynn Archer and
Victoria Marthaler, as well as a match-best 20 digs from
Reese Ampi, Sacramento State fell on the road at Boston College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-16), on Friday evening at Connell Recreation Center.
One bright spot for the Hornets was Archer, who continued her dominance. The senior middle blocker's 11 kills accompanied a .556 hitting percentage as she had just one error in 18 swings. She has hit at least .500 in three straight matches, and her season hitting percentage of .431 is now the second best mark in the Big Sky Conference.
Sacramento State (3-5 overall) fell to 1-1 at the Boston College tournament, which included a sweep of Dartmouth yesterday. The Hornets wrap up the three-day tournament tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. PT vs. UAlbany.
Boston College improved to 7-0, and six of its seven victories have come via three-set sweep. The Hornets and Eagles were playing for just the second time, and first since a Hornet sweep in 1995.
Boston College finished with a .307 hitting percentage (second best mark by a Hornet opponent this year), and had nine team blocks compared to four for Sacramento State. The Hornets hit .154.
Marthaler registered double digits in kills for the sixth straight match. Ampi's 20 digs led all players, and marked her third match this year with 20+ digs.
Kelsey Heffner and
Greta Davis both had four kills,
Keonahi'ilani Solaita added three kills, and setter
Kate Doorn posted 26 assists and six digs.
