CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sacramento State hit a season-best .356 while limiting UAlbany to a .041 mark on the way to a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) of the Great Danes on Saturday morning at Connell Recreation Center.
The Hornets had 45 kills with just nine errors in 101 swings while never trailing by more than one point the entire match. UAlbany, a member of the America East Conference, had just 24 kills with 20 errors in 97 attacks. In fact, the Great Danes' hitting percentage of .041 is the lowest mark of the season by a Sacramento State opponent.
The Hornets (4-5 overall) complete the Boston College tournament with a 2-1 record, which included a Thursday win over Dartmouth and a Friday loss to BC. This was the first-ever trip to the state of Massachusetts for the Hornet Volleyball program.
After opening the season with an 0-3 record, the Hornets, equipped with seven new players, have won four of their last six matches. A total of 14 players appeared in today's match for Sacramento State, and nine of those players had kills.
Leading the way was middle blocker
Ashlynn Archer who posted a match-high 12 kills to go with a .556 hitting percentage and four blocks. The senior has now connected for at least a .500 hitting percentage in four straight matches, and is hitting .444 this season.
Victoria Marthaler (9 kills, .304 hit%),
Greta Davis (7 kills, .538), and
Eleanor Weeks (4 kills, .500) all hit for healthy hitting percentages while
Skyler Gartin had two kills in two swings, and
Kelsey Heffner two kills in three swings.
Keonahi'ilani Solaita posted six kills, and
Reese Ampi added 12 digs.
The Hornets employed two setters today as
Kate Doorn finished with 17 assists, and freshman
Kaylee Piepho had 15 assists.Â
Of the 14 players that appeared in today's match for the Hornets, six were freshmen.
After two weeks on the road, the Hornets return home next week to host the Central Cal Challenge. The three-day event runs from Thursday-Saturday, and will also feature CSU Bakersfield, Pacific and Fresno State. The Hornets open with Bakersfield on Thursday at 7 p.m.
