MICHAELA EBBEN NAMED ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH

SACRAMENTO -- Michaela Ebben has been named assistant volleyball coach at Sacramento State, it was announced today by Hornet head coach Ruben Volta.

Ebben, who has over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience and was a starting setter at Arizona, will join the staff of Volta, and assistants John Fluette and Sarah Chlebana.

Ebben spent the last 21 seasons at Sonoma State, where she was an assistant coach from 2006-24, and volunteer assistant in 2004-05. She helped coach the Seawolves to 10 NCAA Div. II Tournament appearances over the last 17 years, and had been head coach Bear Grassl's top assistant since 2006.

"We are thrilled to welcome Michaela to our coaching staff," Volta said. "She brings great experience, passion for the game, and a strong commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. Michaela has a deep understanding of the game and a competitive drive that will fit perfectly with our program's culture. We're excited for the positive impact she will make on our players and team moving forward."

Not only did Sonoma State make 10 NCAA Tournament appearances since 2008, Ebben helped coach the program to a 306-152 overall record, and 212-99 conference mark over that span. That included the program's first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament title in 2015, and NCAA West Region championship in 2014.

Prior to the Seawolves' run of 10 NCAA Tourney trips, Sonoma State had qualified for the NCAA's postseason event just three times in program history.

"I'm thrilled to be part of this program with such a talented group of student-athletes," Ebben said. "Coach Volta and his staff have been incredibly welcoming, already making me feel like a true member of the Sac State volleyball family. I look forward to contributing to the team's continued success, and do my part in building on the strong foundation of the program."

The Forestville, Calif., native played four years at Arizona (1994-97) of the Pac-10 Conference where she was the Wildcats' starting setter each of her final two seasons. In fact, Ebben ranks seventh in program history with a career average of 10.47 assists per set, and 10th with 2,692 career assists. She also racked up a combined 222 kills and hit .352 during her final two seasons.

An honorable mention all-Pac 10 Conference selection in 1997, her average of 12.10 assists that season remain ninth in Arizona single-season history. During her two years as the starting setter (1996-97), Arizona combined to go 40-17 overall and 22-14 in the Pac-10 while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament both seasons.

Ebben graduated from Arizona in 1998 with a degree in family studies and human development.
