SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State sophomore Noemi Arvai was one of 16 players selected to represent Hungary at the U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Brno, Czechia from July 12-20.
This will be Arvai's third appearance on a Hungarian national team after representing her country at the 2022 FIBA U16 Women's European Championships (4.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 7 games) and finishing fifth in Portugal, while also making an appearance with the U18 squad at the 2023 Women's European Championships in Turkey.
She also gained invaluable international experience in the 2024 Women's EuroCup with her TARR KSC Szekszard club.
The native of Budapest appeared in 31 games for the Hornets in her first collegiate season, scoring 55 points and grabbing 38 rebounds on the year. She scored a season-high 10 points in the season opener against Jessup University and added a season-best seven rebounds in that game.
Hungary finished 6th at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket championships, but earned the qualifying sport for this year's Women's World Cup after Serbia was unable to participate. This is Hungary's third appearance in the U19 Women's World Cup, posting a best-ever finish of third in 2021.
Arvai and her teammates have been drawn into Group A along with Israel (first-ever appearance), Korea (seventh appearance), and the odds-on favorite 10-time champion (including the last nine straight) United States squad. Hungary opens against Israel at 10:45 a.m. PT on July 12, faces the United States at 11:15 a.m. on July 13, and finishes group play against Korea at 5:30 a.m. on July 15. Championship bracket play begins on July 16.
