BASEBALL FALLS IN MIDWEEK CLASH AT UC DAVIS

DAVIS, Calif. — In the first of three scheduled meetings between the Sacramento State and UC Davis baseball teams it was the homestanding Aggies who drew first blood in the midweek "series" between the long-time rivals, posting a 14-0 victory on Tuesday night in Davis, Calif.

The loss ended the Hornets' three game winning streak, falling to 18-14 overall on the year. UC Davis improved to 15-15 overall, winning for the fourth consecutive time in the series.

Sacramento State was limited to four hits on the night with Myles Walton and Elie Kligman recording doubles, while junior Luis Pimentel-Guerrero reached base safely for the 15th consecutive contest after his first-inning single. Tyler White led-off the game with a single to collect the remaining hit for the Hornets.

In the 239th all-time meeting between the two schools dating back to 1950, the Aggies put the game away early, sending 19 batters to the plate over the first two innings and scoring nine times — six in the first and three in the second — on eight hits to take a commanding lead. UC Davis added two more in the fourth and three in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Senior Matt Masicangelo, who drew a walk in his first plate appearance on the night, made his return to the lineup after missing the last 27 games due to an injury suffered in the series finale against San Francisco on Feb. 17.

Sacramento State now turns its attention to the weekend and its fourth Western Athletic Conference series of the season, welcoming in Seattle U for three games at John Smith Field. The Hornets and Redhawks open on Friday (April 11) at 4 p.m., with game two scheduled for Saturday (April 12) at 6 p.m., and Sunday's finale on Sunday (April 13) at 1 p.m.
