SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team continued its unbeaten run through the Big Sky Conference on Sunday, winning all nine matches en route to a 7-0 shutout of visiting Eastern Washington.
The Hornets won their fifth consecutive dual match in improving to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in league play this season, winning their last four via the shutout and having not lost an individual match since a 5-2 win over Portland on March 6.
The Eagles fell to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the Big Sky.
Sacramento State won all three doubles matches on the day, opening with a 6-0 shutout at the No. 3 spot by Palina Saulevich and Reese Walker and clinching the point with a 6-3 win by Lou Baudouin and Emilija Pranyte at No. 2 — their second clinching victory of the year. Maddy Ferreros and Irene Riva finished off the sweep with a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot.
Switching to singles, the Hornets proceeded to win all six matches in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0, shutout by Elena Mercioiu at the No. 5 position. Ferreros and Riva also posted a shutout in one of their sets on the day while Walker provided the clinching point for the first time this season with a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 2.
After playing its previous seven duals at home, Sacramento State hits the road for the first time in conference play next weekend, taking on Weber State (March 28) and Idaho State (March 30).
