SACRAMENTO -- Five of the six singles matches were extremely close, including three 3-setters, but Sacramento State fell to Pacific, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon on campus.
Today's match was a makeup for a contest that was rained out earlier this season.
Sacramento State was playing a Pacific team that is currently ranked 64th in the country (the ITA ranks the top 75 teams). The loss dropped the Hornets to 9-8 overall and 7-3 at home. Sacramento State concluded its season-long seven match homestand with a 5-2 record. The team also saw its four-match winning streak snapped.
Pacific improved its record to 8-6. The Tigers have now won four of their last five matches.
The Hornets' lone point came from freshman
Martin Duris, who won his match at No. 5 by a 6-2, 7-6 (5) score. Duris has now won seven straight singles matches, while improving to 11-4.
Henry Lamchinniah (No. 1),
Nick Bowles (No. 3) and
Hayden Rand (No. 4) each lost in three sets. Lamchinniah had won six straight singles matches prior to this afternoon.
Gur Libal lost at No. 2 in close fashion (6-4, 6-4), and
David Dai fell at No. 6 by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
