WOMEN’S TENNIS MAKES QUICK WORK OF SEATTLE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The No. 74 Sacramento State women's tennis team picked up its third consecutive dual match victory on Saturday morning, rolling past visiting Seattle U for a 4-0 victory at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex on campus.

The victory pushed the Hornets to 10-2 overall on the season, posting their second consecutive shutout and their fourth overall this year. The Redhawks fell to 1-8 overall with the defeat.

Sacramento State posted wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the doubles lineup to take a 1-0 lead in the match as the tandems of Emilija Pranyte and Palina Saulevich along with Weronika Ejsmont and Reese Walked collected identical 6-2 victories.

The Hornets continued to roll with the scene switching to singles as Pranyte was the first off the courts at the No. 3 position with a, 6-3, 6-2, win over Natalia Michta, followed by a win at No. 5 by Riva, who dispatched Daria Nazarenkio, 6-2, 6-4.

Saturday's match was clinched by Mercioiu at No. 4, defeating Lola Tavcar, 6-4, 6-0.

Sacramento State was also up a set at No. 2 with Walker winning the first over Liliya Dimova and leading the second, 4-3, while Ejsmont was up a set, 6-3, against Larissa Teramura and tied 1-1 in the second. Ferreros lost her first set, 6-4, against Lamika Avdic, but was up, 5-1, in the second when the match was called.

Mercioiu's singles clincher was her third of the season, tying her with teammate Lou Baudouin for the most on the Hornets' roster this year. The doubles winner by Pranyte and Saulevich was the first by the duo this season but, individually, each collected their second.

A seven-match homestand comes to a close with a pair of matches against Big Sky Conference opponents next week as Sacramento State hosts Montana State on Friday (March 21), before welcoming Eastern Washington to campus on Sunday (March 23). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
