SEATTLE -- Sacramento State won singles matches at Nos. 2, 3 and 5, but it was not enough in a 4-3 loss at Seattle U on Friday afternoon at the Amy Yee Indoor Tennis Center.
The Hornets, who have used four freshmen in the singles lineup in every match this season, dropped to 1-3 with the loss. Seattle improved to 1-2.
Sacramento State received wins from
Gur Libal at No. 2 (7-6, 3-6, 6-3),
Nick Bowles at No. 3 (6-2, 6-3) and
Martin Duris at No. 5 (1-6, 6-1, 6-0). Each of those players are freshmen, and each has won two straight singles matches.
However, Seattle earned the all-important doubles point, claiming 6-3 and 6-4 victories, and received wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 6 singles to pull out the win.
The Hornets, who are playing each of their first five matches of the season on the road, take on Portland State on Sunday at 10 a.m. That match is the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.
